UUPSO · Policies & protection

Rules the app actually enforces.

Green chips mark rules the platform enforces automatically, holds, GPS-verified no-shows, instant refunds. They aren’t promises a support agent applies later; money on UPSO can only move this way.

🛡️ Avoiding scams, the 60-second version

Pay in-app, spot fakes, stay covered

  • All money stays in the app. Your card is held, and only captured when the work provably happened (boarding code, PIN, GPS). Anyone asking for cash, e-transfer or a payment link is taking away your protection.
  • Chat and calls open close to departure and stay on-platform, phone numbers are never shared (calls connect through the UPSO line). Someone pushing you to another app early is a red flag.
  • Our only real web addresses are upso.ca and upsoapp.com. We never ask for your password, login codes, or banking details by message.
  • UPSO will never: ask you to pay outside the app · request your login code · send a “refund link”. Report anything like this from the order screen, it reaches a human.

⭐ Trust & standing, how the score works

    One score across every service

Every Pro has one trust score (0 to 100) across everything they do on UPSO. Verified completions and good ratings raise it; no-proof closures, upheld disputes and broken commitments lower it, each with a plain-English entry on their standing list. No silent penalties.

💲 Fair pricing, no surge, no surprises

The number you agree to is the number you pay

  • Prices never surge. We don’t multiply fares or rates when it’s busy, raining, or game night, the price you see is the price.
  • Service quotes are agreed before work starts and held, not charged, until the job is done and proven.
  • Every fee is its own labelled line on your bill before you pay. If a flat holiday premium ever applies, it’s shown up front as a line item, never hidden inside a bigger number.
  • If your bill ever doesn’t add up, tell us from Help, a person reviews every pricing complaint.

    📍 GPS, check-in & your privacy

Tracked only while a job is live · kept 30 days

  • While a trip or job is live, the Pro’s route is recorded so you get a live map, safety features work, and disputes are settled on evidence, not he-said-she-said.
  • Nothing is tracked while idle. Trails delete automatically after 30 days, and immediately if an account is deleted.
  • Customers are never live-tracked. Tapping “I’m here” shares one location stamp, it protects you from being marked a no-show.
  • Fake-GPS apps don’t work here: spoofed or low-accuracy fixes are detected and never count as evidence.

📦 Caravan parcels, how your parcel is protected

    PIN handoffs, escrow, refunds

•You bring the parcel to the meeting spot

Read your pickup PIN to the Pro, that’s the proof it was handed over (a photo is taken too).

    •Follow it live

You and your recipient watch the same live map the whole route.

•Recipient confirms with the delivery PIN

Only then is the Pro paid, the money sits in escrow until the handoff is proven.

Booked ahead, more than 24h before the startCancel yourself, free

Once a Pro has accepted a booking for a future date you can still cancel it yourself, right up to 24 hours before the start. Your hold is released, nothing is kept, and your Pro is told straight away. Same as a Caravan seat.

    ⚡ automatic
Booked ahead, within 24h of the start20% of the job goes to your Pro

Your Pro turned other work down for that slot, so 20% of the job goes to them, paid right away, and the service fee is not refunded. Everything else comes back. You see the exact amounts before you confirm. Cancel a few minutes after booking and it is free whatever the start time.

You’re not there when the Pro arrivesCharged like a late cancel: 20% of the job, at least CA$15

Charged only if your Pro provably arrived (GPS-verified) and waited 10 minutes. 20% of the job goes to your Pro for the trip out and the slot they held, the service fee is not refunded, and the rest of your hold is released. On a small job the CA$15 call-out fee applies instead. Any mistake is one tap to dispute from Help: the money sits in review, not in anyone’s pocket, until a person confirms it. Repeated no-shows switch your service bookings to pay-at-booking for 90 days (still fully refundable until your Pro heads out); it clears on its own after that.

    ⚡ GPS-verified

    For Pros

The same rules the UPSO Pro app shows under Help & Support, starting with your rights as a Pro.

📜 Your rights as a Pro, pay, tips, offers, ratings

The written information Ontario law says you must have

•How your pay is worked out

Hourly services: your rate × the time you work, from Start to Complete, at least 1 hour or the service’s minimum (for example 2 hours for Moving Help), and at most the hours booked unless the customer approves extra time. Offers show your payout as “up to” that amount. Emergency call-outs outside regular hours (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) add the multiplier for that time to your rate, plus the call-out fee, which is all yours. Materials the customer approves are paid back at cost, on top of your pay. A job you win with your own quote pays the quoted price. You keep 85% and UPSO keeps 15%, printed on every job. Send and parcels: the price comes from the distance, the drive time and the parcel’s size, and is shown before you accept. On Send, parcels and rides you keep 85% of the price shown. Your pay period is weekly and your pay day is Friday.

    •The minimum-wage guarantee

On ride, delivery, courier, errand, grocery, laundry, luggage and donation work, if your base pay for a job comes to less than Ontario’s general minimum wage for your engaged time, from the moment you accept to the moment you complete, travel included: UPSO tops it up automatically. Waiting between jobs is not engaged time. Time on site and home-service trades are outside this law and are priced by your own rate.

    •Tips

100% yours. UPSO never deducts from a tip, and tips are never counted toward the minimum-wage top-up, the guarantee is on base pay alone. Every job shows the tip on its own line.

    •When you get paid

Your pay for a job is sent to your Stripe account when the job closes, the same day, with the engaged time and any top-up shown beside it; Stripe then pays your bank on your account’s payout schedule. Tips added after a job, return-leg pay and credits collect in your UPSO wallet, which is paid out free every Friday (CA$5 minimum), or any time with Instant cashout for a fee of 3% of the amount (minimum CA$0.75). Your period statement, with every job, tip, top-up and deduction, is in Earnings on the web portal.

•What decides who is offered a job

A job is offered to Pros who are online, within their own working radius, inside the job’s area, have that service switched on for the shift, and meet any vehicle requirement (a van or truck for bulky Send). The first Pro to accept gets it. Your rating does not decide who is offered a job. There is no bidding and no surge.

•Ratings, and what they can lead to

Customers rate you after each job. Your average shows on your profile; until you have ratings it says New, never zero. Three negative events in 30 days, cancellations, no-shows or flags, pause new work automatically for up to 23 hours while a person reviews them; jobs you already accepted are not affected, and you can appeal from Help & Support. A removal for rating or business reasons always comes with a written reason and 14 days’ notice, during which you can keep working. Immediate removal is reserved for wilful misconduct, public safety or a legal requirement.

One button. Stripe (our payout partner) opens: UPSO never sees your ID, SIN or banking details.

    •Done, payouts unlock

Your earnings show as Paid only when money truly moved. Anything under review shows as Held, never fake-earned.

The #1 failure: details that don’t match. Your name, date of birth and address must match your ID AND your bank record exactly. Check your banking app first.

🚪 Customer not home? How no-shows pay

Arrive, wait, then it pays, skip the steps and it costs you

You arrived and waitedPaid like a late cancel: 20% of the job, at least CA$12.75

Tap Arrived when you get there (GPS-checked), wait 10 minutes and try to reach them, then mark the no-show. The customer is charged the same share a late cancel costs, 20% of the job price plus the service fee, and that 20% is yours, released after a quick review. On a small job the CA$15 call-out fee applies instead, and CA$12.75 of it is yours.

    ⚡ GPS-verified
No Arrived tap, or you left earlyNothing charged, and it flags your standing

A no-show claim without proof of arrival charges the customer nothing and puts a mark on your trust score. Marking Arrived protects you, it is the evidence.

A customer who cancels within 24 hours of the start pays you 20% of the job as compensation for the slot you held, sent to you right away rather than at job end. Earlier than that it is free for them and the time goes back on your calendar. Exactly how a Caravan seat works.

🏗️ WSIB and who you work for

Roofing, carpentry, flooring, painting, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, landscaping

Ontario requires WSIB coverage for construction work. The one exemption is home renovation work hired and paid directly by the person who lives in the home, done by a Pro with no employees. Take even one business or landlord job and the exemption ends, and that customer needs your WSIB clearance before you start.

Homeowner jobs onlyDeclare it, nothing to upload

You accept the WSIB declaration on the lane and your services step says you work for homeowners only. You only see jobs where the customer lives in the home.

  • The booking is a contract between you and the customer. UPSO is the venue and collects the customer's payment on your behalf, then pays you less the platform fee.
